More spent online in Germany than France & UK

Consumers shopping online in Germany in the run up to Christmas spent more than shoppers in the UK or in France, according to figures from comScore Networks. The company puts the figure for the amount of money spent online in the UK during November and December at 4 billion euros - a lot less than the £7.66 billion quoted by IMRG.

The figures from comScore are based on the number of visits to secure sections of retail sites and show that shoppers in France spent 1.9 billion euros and people in Germany spent an estimated 5.4 billion euros. The visits show an increase of 69% in the UK (compared to pre-holiday traffic), and a 90% rise in the number of visits to secure sections of sites for e-retailers in France.

However you look at the figures, they show that shoppers in all three countries are confident with shopping online and that most e-retailers in Europe had a record Christmas.

The comScore World Metrix figures also show that Argos received more traffic in the UK than Amazon, followed by Tesco, Littlewoods and Apple.
