Huge expected growth for online Christmas shopping

With year-long reports of gloomy sales figures on the High Street, retailers are pessimistic over reclaiming their losses during the Christmas period. More than half expect their Christmas sales figures to stagnate or fall.

Meanwhile, on the virtual high street, online retailers and e-commerce business owners are expecting another large increase in festive season sales as consumers search for bargains and do their Xmas shopping the easy way - on the internet. Up to 40% of British adults are expected to do at least some of their gift shopping online this year (source: Mintel).
